Baseball Recap: Notre Dame Victorious

Notre Dame lost to North Haven back in April, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Monday. The Green Knights narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Nighthawks 3-2.

Gehrig Footit tossed a big game, striking out six batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and only one walk). He has become a key player for Notre Dame: the team is 5-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-6 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Notre Dame saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nate Marczak, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Alex Riga also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

The victory got Notre Dame back to even at 7-7. As for North Haven, with the defeat, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 10-8.

Looking ahead, Notre Dame is taking a road trip to face off against Woodland Regional at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Hawks will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Green Knights surely won't give up without a fight. As for North Haven, they will challenge North Branford at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
