Soccer Game Preview: Appoquinimink vs. Newark

Appoquinimink has gone 7-1 against Newark recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Jaguars will challenge the Yellowjackets at 3:30 p.m. Appoquinimink will come into the game with an undefeated record on the line.

Appoquinimink is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Delaware's top teams: Odessa, who was ranked 16th at the time (Appoquinimink was ranked first). The Jaguars' defense stepped up to hand the Ducks a 4-0 shutout on Wednesday. Appoquinimink might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matches by four goals or more this season.

Meanwhile, Newark won against Howard on Thursday with seven goals and they decided to stick to that goal total again on Friday. The Yellowjackets blew past the Wildcats 7-0. Newark haven't had any issues with Howard recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Appoquinimink's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-0. Those road victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up zero goals over those four contests. As for Newark, their win bumped their record up to 6-8.

Appoquinimink took their victory against Newark when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 7-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Jaguars since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
