Baseball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Auburndale

Auburndale entered their tilt with Davenport on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Broncos. This was payback for the Bloodhounds, who suffered a 7-6 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Colin Holmes and Carter Brattlie made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Holmes pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Brattlie pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Holmes went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and two RBI, while Brattlie scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Brattlie is becoming a predictor of Auburndale's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-2 (and 4-14 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Caiden Whittenton, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Thomas Pitard, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI.

Auburndale always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .516 or higher in three consecutive matches.

Auburndale pushed their record up to 8-16 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Davenport, their loss dropped their record down to 7-16.

Auburndale and Davenport are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Bloodhounds will square off against Gateway at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Davenport, they will face off against Lake Gibson at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Broncos are facing the Braves at the right time seeing as the Braves are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
