Baseball Game Preview: Greenbrier Christian Academy Gators vs. Steward Spartans

The Greenbrier Christian Academy Gators will challenge the Steward Spartans at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. Greenbrier Christian Academy will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

Greenbrier Christian Academy is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 16-2 margin over The Covenant. The result was nothing new for the Gators, who have now won 15 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Greenbrier Christian Academy got a great performance from Luke Davenport as he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. Davenport has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Josh Henkel and Jack Bonney did most of the damage at the plate: Henkel went 3-for-4 with five stolen bases and three runs, while Bonney went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles Bonney has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Watson, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Greenbrier Christian Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .657. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as The Covenant only posted an OBP of .429.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Steward, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They skirted past Nansemond-Suffolk Academy 10-9. The high-scoring effort was just what the Spartans needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

Steward has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Greenbrier Christian Academy, they pushed their record up to 24-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home.

Greenbrier Christian Academy took their victory against Steward when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 16-0 score. Will the Gators repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
