Basketball Recap: Standley Lake Extends Winning Streak to Five

Standley Lake came tearing into Tuesday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 26.5 points) and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victor by a 54-33 margin over the Littleton Lions. The Gators have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matchups by 21 points or more this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Standley Lake to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sydney Martin, who dropped a double-double with 19 points and 11 boards. Thanks to that strong game, Martin now owns an excellent 45.2% shooting accuracy. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaliyah Valenzuela, who went 6-for-15 en route to 15 points and five steals.

Standley Lake smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in five consecutive games.

Erica Levene and Samantha Hernandez Tobon certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Levene posted nine points along with seven rebounds and four steals, while Hernandez Tobon scored nine points. The dominant performance also gave Hernandez Tobon a new career-high in assists (four). Another player making a difference was Emma Bird, who had five points and six boards.

Standley Lake's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.8 points over those games. As for Littleton, their loss dropped their record down to 7-13.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Standley Lake will take on D'Evelyn at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Standley Lake is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.5 points per game this season. As for Littleton, a feisty cat fight will be fought as the Lions challenge the Cougars at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Evergreen has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
