Basketball Recap: Hampton Takes a Loss

Hampton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They had to suffer through a 67-35 loss at the hands of the Shelby-Rising City Huskies. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Hawks of the 62-22 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2024.

Hampton's loss came despite strong showings from Bryce Joseph and Wyatt Dose. Joseph posted nine points, while Dose earned 11 points. The dominant performance also gave Joseph a new career-high in assists (three). Mason Wiens also deserves some recognition as he scored his first point of the season.

Shelby-Rising City's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dalton Pokorney, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 boards. Another player making a difference was Noah Thelen, who went 5 of 7 en route to 14 points and three steals.

Hampton's defeat dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Shelby-Rising City, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-7.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Nebraska Lutheran the next time they take the court. Shelby-Rising City will host Nebraska Lutheran at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, while Hampton will host them at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
