Baseball Recap: Waskom Takes a Loss

It was a proper cat-fight when Waskom took on Union Grove on Tuesday. The Wildcats took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lions. The Wildcats' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

Remington Riley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on three hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jacob Woodward was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. He has become a key player for Waskom: the team is 4-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-12 otherwise.

Waskom's defeat dropped their record down to 7-14. As for Union Grove, they moved to 4-17-2 with that victory, which also ended their five-game losing streak.

While Waskom had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
