Basketball Recap: St. John Paul II Comes Up Short

St. John Paul II won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Friday. They were dealt a 60-32 loss at the hands of the Maclay Marauders. The matchup marked the Panthers' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

When it comes to explaining why St. John Paul II lost, don't look at Mario Forbes. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. Forbes is crushing it when it comes to boards: he's pulled down at least nine every time he's taken the court this season.

Even though they lost, St. John Paul II smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in six consecutive contests.

Maclay got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Nash Beshears out in front who posted four points in addition to eight steals and five assists. The dominant performance gave Beshears a new career-high in steals. Another player making a difference was Andrew Lunt, who earned nine points and six rebounds.

St. John Paul II has traveled a rocky road recently having lost ten of their last 11 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season. As for Maclay, their win bumped their record up to an identical 8-13.

St. John Paul II does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Maclay, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 76-70 victory against Marianna on the 1st.
