Softball Recap: McMinn County Cherokees vs. Walker Valley Mustangs
McMinn County extended their losing streak to four on Sunday, dropping their season record down to 7-16 in the process. They came up short against the Walker Valley Mustangs, falling 9-0. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, with their most recent defeat being a 12-1 loss back in April.
As for Walker Valley, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 27-8. Considering they have won 14 matches by more than seven runs this season, Sunday's blowout was nothing new.
For Walker Valley's part, Olivia Presswood was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. With that strong performance, Presswood is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three RBI.
In other batting news, Vanessa Byers was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one triple. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Alyssa Davenport was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs.
McMinn County does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Walker Valley, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 4-3 win against Cleveland on the 5th.
