Baseball Recap: Gorton Victorious

Gorton proved they can win big last Wednesday (they won by eight) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Poughkeepsie Pioneers 5-4. This was payback for the Wolves, who suffered a 4-1 loss the last time these two teams met.

Justin Medina was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Julius Vargas, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Gorton's victory bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Poughkeepsie, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Looking ahead, Gorton will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Lincoln at 4:00 p.m. As for Poughkeepsie, they will take on Roosevelt at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday.
