Softball Game Preview: Seneca Bobcats vs. Blue Ridge Fighting Tigers

The Seneca Bobcats will venture away from home to face off against the Blue Ridge Fighting Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

While Seneca's victory against Daniel wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Bobcats skirted past the Lions 10-9. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Bobcats.

Meanwhile, Blue Ridge came tearing into Tuesday's match with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 win over the Panthers.

Lily Mulkey made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over five innings pitched. What's more, she posted three strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 4-for-5.

In other batting news, Grace Thompkins was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Brynlee Bayne was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Seneca's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-6. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Blue Ridge, their record now sits at 11-5.

Seneca took their victory against Blue Ridge in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 13-7 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bobcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
