Softball Game Preview: Colts Neck Cougars vs. St. John-Vianney Lancers

Colts Neck hasn't had much luck against St. John-Vianney recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Cougars will venture away from home to square off against the Lancers at 3:45 p.m. The last four games Colts Neck has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

It was a proper cat-fight when Colts Neck took on Mount St. Dominic Academy on Saturday. The Cougars narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Lions 6-5. The win was some much needed relief for the Cougars as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Angela Sasso spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 15 Ks. Those 15 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Jillian Heyser was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Gabby Bryce was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Meanwhile, St. John-Vianney got themselves on the board against Freehold Township on Wednesday, but Freehold Township never followed suit. They blew past the Patriots 7-0. The victory continues a trend for the Lancers in their matchups with the Patriots: they've now won four in a row.

Colts Neck's record now sits at 3-4. As for St. John-Vianney, their record is now 5-1.

Colts Neck couldn't quite get it done against St. John-Vianney in their previous meeting on April 2nd as they fell 5-1. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
