Football Recap: Porter-Gaud Starts Season with Win at Home

Porter-Gaud took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Friday. They put the hurt on the Hilton Head Christian Academy Eagles with a sharp 46-21 win. That's more bragging rights for the Cyclones, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Jackson Shealy went supernova, rushing for 321 yards and three TDs while picking up 10.7 yards per carry. Those three rushing touchdowns gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Amir Chisolm, who rushed for 100 yards and one touchdown on only seven carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Porter-Gaud was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 454 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 191 rushing yards in eight consecutive games dating back to last season.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Porter-Gaud's defense and their three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Julian Buxton, Beanie Brown, and Daven Brown, who each picked up one sack apiece. Another thorn in Hilton Head Christian Academy's side was Huck Nevin, who made seven total tackles and defended one pass in addition to snagging an interception.

Although Hilton Head Christian Academy took the loss, they still got scores from Reid McCollum, Joseph Houpt, and Thomas Gehm.

Porter-Gaud didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 48-0 victory against First Baptist School on the 22nd. As for Hilton Head Christian Academy, they have also already played their next matchup, a 36-20 win against Battery Creek on the 22nd.
