Football Game Preview: SA Roosevelt Rough Riders vs. Churchill Chargers

The SA Roosevelt Rough Riders will challenge the Churchill Chargers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

As a matter of fact, SA Roosevelt put up the most points they have all season on Saturday. They took their game with ease, bagging a 44-7 victory over LEE. With the Rough Riders ahead 23-0 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

One reason for the win was SA Roosevelt's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. In that department, J'Anthonie Ruiz was the leader with two.

Meanwhile, Churchill was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They fell 42-31 to Brandeis.

The match pitted two dominant backs against one another in Kalobe Rond and Jaron Morris. Morris had a great game and rushed for 201 yards and three TDs while picking up 10.1 yards per carry. Meanwhile, Rond was balling out in the loss, rushing for 167 yards and one score.

Churchill didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. Elliott Watts picked up that interception and then proceeded to rub salt in the wound by taking it back the other way for a touchdown. He got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Churchill's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for SA Roosevelt, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.

SA Roosevelt lost to Churchill at home by a decisive 28-14 margin in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Rond, who rushed for 180 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 12 carries. Now that the Rough Riders know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
