Baseball Game Preview: New Holstein Huskies vs. Kiel Raiders

For the second straight game, New Holstein will face off against Kiel. The Huskies will take on the Raiders at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.

New Holstein will bounce into Thursday's match after beating Kiel, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Huskies were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over the Raiders on Tuesday.

Parker Ziebell made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because New Holstein is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 5-6 otherwise. Ziebell was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ethan Schmitz, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Landon Floyd also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

New Holstein has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Kiel, their defeat ended a 13-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 9-3.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. New Holstein has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Kiel struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
