The Orcutt Academy Spartans will face off against the Dos Palos Broncos at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Dos Palos took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Orcutt Academy, who comes in off a win.
Orcutt Academy barely beat Pioneer Valley the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Spartans were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Panthers on Thursday.
Orcutt Academy not only won, but also showed off some consistency: they kept Pioneer Valley between 18 and 20 points across their sets. The final score came out to 25-19, 25-20, 25-18.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Dos Palos' good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They came up short against Coalinga, falling 3-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Broncos have suffered since September 23rd.
Dos Palos took the loss but they managed to make steady progress, increasing their score in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-11, 25-14, 25-20.
Orcutt Academy will have to keep a close watch on Lilliana Gonzales and Hailey Portillo, a pair of players who had a big impact on Dos Palos' prior game. Gonzales had 17 digs and two aces, while Portillo had 19 digs and 15 assists. Gonzales has been hot recently, having posted 12 or more digs the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kodi Gonzales, who had 18 digs and two assists.
Dos Palos' defeat dropped their record down to 13-16-1. As for Orcutt Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-10 record this season.
