Basketball Recap: Eagle Takes Down Ranked Pocatello

On Saturday, Eagle faced Pocatello in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Eagle Mustangs came out on top in a nail-biter against the Pocatello Thunder, sneaking past 50-48.

Berkley Jones was her usual excellent self, going 7 for 16 on her way to 18 points and eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlotte White, who posted four points and nine rebounds.

Eagle smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 14 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Despite the loss, Pocatello still got an impressive performance from Kennasyn Garza, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 12 boards. Garza has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last four times she's played. Abby Lusk was another key player, putting up 16 points and seven rebounds.

Eagle's victory bumped their record up to 11-2. As for Pocatello, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-2.

Eagle wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 63-43 loss against Owyhee on the 9th. As for Pocatello, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 55-32 win against Shelley on the 8th.
