Softball Recap: Lower Lake Comes Up Short

After flying high against Upper Lake last Friday, Lower Lake came back down to earth. The Trojans took a 7-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cloverdale Eagles on Friday. The Trojans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Mariah Bal spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and six unearned) runs on two hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Aly Aguirre made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Leanna Ortega was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Lower Lake has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season. As for Cloverdale, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 13-1.

Looking ahead, Lower Lake will take on Kelseyville at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Cloverdale, they will challenge Middletown at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles are facing the Mustangs at the right time seeing as the Mustangs are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
