Softball Recap: Daphne Takes Down Ranked Fairhope

Daphne faced Fairhope in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Trojans put the hurt on the Pirates with a sharp 7-1 victory. The Trojans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 18 matchups by six runs or more this season.

Victoria Moten made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 18 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run.

In other batting news, Abby J Johnson was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Karsyn Barnett was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Daphne kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in three consecutive contests.

Daphne's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 31-5. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Fairhope, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 23-9.

Daphne didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 17-1 defeat against Orange Beach on the 17th. As for Fairhope, they have also already played their next matchup, a 14-4 win against Foley on the 11th.
