Baseball Recap: Concord Find Success

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Concord ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Lenawee Christian Cougars 11-9. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Yellowjackets considering their one-run performance the matchup before.

Nate Fritz and Jordan Medellion made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Fritz struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Medellion didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over four innings pitched. At the plate, Fritz scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-5, while Medellion scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Dustin Hamilton, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Riske, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Concord has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.5 runs across that stretch. As for Lenawee Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Concord will host Quincy at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. This will be the Yellowjackets' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Lenawee Christian, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Whiteford at 4:00 p.m.
