Preview: Veterans Memorial Patriots vs. Burbank Bulldogs
The Veterans Memorial Patriots will face off against the Burbank Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Veterans Memorial can now show off four landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Cedar Creek 35-7 at home. With Veterans Memorial ahead 28-7 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Meanwhile, Burbank waltzed into Saturday's match with four straight wins but they left with five. They managed a 31-27 win over Lanier.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Burbank to victory, but perhaps none more so than Rene Espinoza, who picked up 170 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Espinoza's longest reception was for an incredible 86 yards. Another player making a difference was Leo Lozano, who gained 126 total yards and a touchdown.
Their wins bumped Veterans Memorial to 7-3 and Burbank to 9-1.
Everything came up roses for Veterans Memorial against Burbank in their previous meeting back in October of 2019 as the squad secured a 49-7 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Veterans Memorial since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
