Gateway took a three-set defeat the last time they faced off against Alameda, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Olympians had just enough and edged out the Pirates 3-2 on Monday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Olympians as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

If you add up the scores from across all five sets (112-104) Gateway actually scored fewer points, but in the end it didn't matter. The match finished with set scores of 21-25, 13-25, 25-23, 25-21, 20-18.

Gateway's win bumped their record up to 4-7. As for Alameda, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-7.

Gateway didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-2 victory against Aurora Central on the 23rd. As for Alameda, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 3-1 loss against Jefferson on the 23rd.
