Basketball Recap: Gardner Comes Up Short

Gardner and Monument Mountain squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Gardner had to settle for second. They were dealt an 87-47 defeat at the hands of the Monument Mountain Spartans. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Massachusetts basketball rankings (they are ranked 198th, while the Spartans are ranked 37th).

Gardner moved to 14-8 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.7 points over those games. As for Monument Mountain, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 19-2.

As of now, neither Gardner nor Monument Mountain have any future games scheduled.
