Volleyball Recap: Stoneman Douglas' Undefeated Season over After Seven Games + How To Watch

After flying high against Flanagan on Wednesday, Stoneman Douglas came back down to earth. The Eagles fell 3-1 to the Cypress Bay Lightning on Thursday. The Eagles were not able to make up for their loss to the Lightning from their previous meeting back in September of 2024.

Stoneman Douglas started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 25-27, 25-18, 25-19, 25-19.

Alyssa James paced Stoneman Douglas' offense, picking up 20 kills. James got some help from Mia Horta and her 28 assists. Isabella Cox controlled things from the service line, finishing with five aces.

Sofia Bruno was the offensive standout of the match as she had 16 digs. Those 16 digs gave her a new career-high. Miranda Matos also deserves some recognition as she served her first aces of the season.

Having lost for the first time this season, Stoneman Douglas fell to 6-1. As for Cypress Bay, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-3.

Stoneman Douglas has already played their next game, a 3-0 victory against Coral Glades on the 15th. As for Cypress Bay, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-0 win against Pompano Beach on the 16th.
