Volleyball Recap: Mountain Valley Takes a Loss

Mountain Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Sangre de Cristo Thunderbirds. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wolves of the 3-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2024.

Mountain Valley was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Sangre de Cristo work for it, especially in the fourth set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 23-25, 23-25, 25-18, 27-25, 15-13.

Milley Knight paced Mountain Valley's offense, picking up 17 kills. Knight got some help from Ivy Jean VanEgmond and her 28 assists. Kandra Pollard controlled things from the service line, finishing with six aces.

Mountain Valley's loss dropped their record down to 2-10. As for Sangre de Cristo, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-8 record this season.

Mountain Valley has already played their next match (against Centennial), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Sangre de Cristo, they have also already played their next contest, a 3-1 defeat against Creede on the 3rd.
