Football Recap: St. Paul's Takes a Loss

St. Paul started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Kingswood Oxford. They took a 24-20 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wyverns on Saturday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Big Red came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked ninth in New Hampshire, while the Wyverns are ranked 57th in Connecticut).

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Kingswood Oxford to victory, but perhaps none more so than Xavier Hernandez-Newton, who picked up 169 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. Those 169 receiving yards gave Hernandez-Newton a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Justin Ocasio, who threw for 334 yards and three TDs.

St. Paul's defeat dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Kingswood Oxford, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-1.

Coming up, St. Paul's will be playing at home against Tabor Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Big Red will need to watch out since the Seawolves have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season. As for Kingswood Oxford, they will venture away from home to challenge New Hampton School at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
