Baseball Recap: Mountlake Terrace Victorious

Mountlake Terrace took a eight-run defeat the last time they faced off against Shorewood, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Hawks skirted past the Stormrays 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Hawks have posted since March 25th.

Jeremy Perreault was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other pitching news, Layton Rongholt looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He is becoming a predictor of Mountlake Terrace's success: when he allows at most three earned runs the team is 5-1 (and 0-7 when he doesn't).

Back at the plate, Charlie Schofield was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he hit this season.

Mountlake Terrace moved to 5-8 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Shorewood, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-4.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Mountlake Terrace will face off against rival Stanwood at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The timing isn't great for the Hawks: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while the Spartans have snatched up three consecutive wins on the road. Meanwhile, Shorewood is set to take on their familiar foe Meadowdale at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
