Baseball Recap: Northwest Classen Continues Home Dominance on Thursday

Northwest Classen's game on Monday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Del City Eagles as they made off with a 13-3 victory. Considering the Knights have won ten matches by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Jayden Mayfield made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Northwest Classen got a massive performance out of Zachary Mockelman, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs. Mockelman has become a key player for the Knights: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 10-12 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jovanny Charqueno, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Northwest Classen always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .629. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Del City only posted an OBP of .364.

Northwest Classen's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-13. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Del City, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-23 record this season.

Northwest Classen will challenge Classen SAS at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Del City, they will venture away from home to take on Midwest City at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
