Basketball Recap: Parkway Christian Comes Up Short

Parkway Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 40-29 loss to the Almont Raiders. That's two games in a row now that the Eagles have lost by exactly 11 points.

Despite the defeat, Parkway Christian saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Angelina Marchesi dropped a double-double on 21 points and 14 rebounds. Marchesi is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 20 games she's played dating back to last season. Maya Woolman was another key player, putting up two points along with five rebounds and four steals.

Even though they lost, Parkway Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 16 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Parkway Christian's loss dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Almont, with the win, they broke their six-game losing streak and moved their record to 1-5.

Parkway Christian wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 32-27 defeat against Southfield Christian on the 7th. As for Almont, they will head out to square off against Imlay City at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
