Recap: Badger Braves vs. Brookfield Warriors
The Badger Braves have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matches by 23 points or more this season. They really took it to Brookfield for the full four quarters, racking up a 61-34 win on the road. The victory was familiar territory for Badger who now have eight in a row.
Badger was led to victory by Gabriella Miller and Katie Grexa. Miller scored seven points along with five steals, while Grexa dropped a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds. Miller is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played. Another player making a difference was Anja Suhar, who scored seven points.
When it comes to explaining why Brookfield lost on Wednesday, one person who can't be blamed is Cailey Wellman. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds. Wellman scored a full 61.8% of Brookfield's points, the ninth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Mya Jumper was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Badger pushed their record up to 8-1 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Brookfield, they have fallen quite a ways from their 17-6 record last season and are now at 3-6.
Badger will head out on the road to face off against Lordstown at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Brookfield will finish 2023 at home by hosting Champion at 11:45 a.m. on Saturday. Champion presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Brookfield in Ohio (Champion is ranked 246th, while Brookfield is ranked 616th).
