Soccer Game Preview: Aptos vs. Watsonville

The Aptos Mariners and the Watsonville Wildcatz will compete for holiday cheer at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Saturday just wasn't the day for Aptos' offense. They fell just short of Monterey by a score of 1-0 last Saturday. The loss was the Mariners' first of the season.

Meanwhile, while Watsonville scored more goals than they have all season, the final result was a bit underwhelming. They and Silver Creek finished up their matchup with a 4-4 draw on Saturday. That draw made it three straight for the Wildcatz.

Watsonville's lineup was just a bit different on Saturday as Gallegos Niko got a bit more time on the pitch (60 vs. his season average of 30). Niko made the most of the opportunity, scoring a goal A few more games like that and he might be seeing even more time going forward.

Having lost for the first time this season, Aptos fell to 2-1. With that draw, Watsonville's record moves to 0-1-3.

Aptos beat Watsonville 3-1 in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. Will Aptos repeat their success, or does Watsonville have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
