Football Preview: Murphy Panthers vs. Williamson Lions

Suggested Video

The Murphy Panthers will face off against the Williamson Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Murphy has struggled recently with seven defeats in a row, while Williamson will arrive with five straight wins.

Last Friday, Murphy had to suffer through a 44-6 loss at the hands of Spanish Fort. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama football rankings (they are ranked 170th, while the Toros are ranked 18th).

Meanwhile, a win is a win, as they say, even a pretty close 6-2 victory over Rain. The six-point effort marked the Lions' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Williamson wouldn't let Rain keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force three fumbles. It was truly a group effort as Elijah Lucky, Trey Pettway, and Pettway picked up one apiece. Pettway is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made seven or more in the last four games he's played dating back to last season. Williamson got some further help from Dontaye Bush: he picked up three sacks, made eight total tackles, and made eight total tackles.

Murphy's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Williamson, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-0.

Things could have been worse for Murphy, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 22-6 loss to Williamson when the teams last played back in May of 2021. Can Murphy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
