Baseball Game Preview: Biglerville Canners vs. Fairfield Knights

The Biglerville Canners will head out to face off against the Fairfield Knights at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Biglerville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.

Biglerville is headed into the matchup having just suffered their closest loss since April 17, 2024 on Monday. They fell just short of Delone Catholic by a score of 7-5. The Canners have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Jared Hollabaugh was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He is becoming a predictor of Biglerville's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 2-1 (and 3-8 when he doesn't). Hollabaugh was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Gavin Althoff was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run.

Meanwhile, Fairfield was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They lost 7-1 to Hanover. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

Fairfield saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jayden Bell, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Biglerville's record now sits at 5-9. As for Fairfield, their record is now 3-13-1.

Biglerville was able to grind out a solid victory over Fairfield when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 7-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Canners since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
