League recap: Vanguard climbs in state rankings

6A District 5 recap November 5, 2013

Vanguard scaled the state rankings by moving to 160 from 189 this week, the biggest jump in 6A District 5. The Knights climbed the ranks as a result of defeating Forest 34-6.

Gainesville extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Lincoln, 20-14. The victory was the eighth in a row for the Hurricanes.

N'Cosi Perry threw for 177 yards and 3 touchdowns. He went 8-13 with 1 interception.

Tony James was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 122 yards on 15 carries as Gainesville topped the Wildcats. Teammate Caelan Christian added to the ground attack by rushing for 45 yards.

Alex Castaneda's team's Adam Robles and Jamerson led 6A District 5 in both passing and receiving yards. 6-2 quarterback Robles has thrown for 2,119 yards this season, while Jamerson has 58 catches for 1,067 yards. Mark Latsko's team's James leads the league in rushing yards with 1,035.

Lake Weir lost to Citrus 29-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
