Mater Dei vs. Long Beach Poly features quarterback duel between JT Daniels and Matt Corral

CIF Southern Section Division I playoff game showcases best two pro style quarterbacks in the country.

Both quarterbacks have thrown for more than 2,400 yards and 29 TDs this season.


The school names alone stir high school football fans everywhere: Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) versus Long Beach Poly (Calif.).

Each has a long history of team success, national acclaim and individual talent who progressed to the NFL: Mater Dei — Matt Leinart, Matt Barkley, Colt Brennan. Long Beach Poly — DeSean Jackson, Kaelin Clay, JuJu Smith-Schuster.

On Friday, the two traditional powers collide in the CIF Southern Section Division I quarterfinals, boasting two of the best quarterbacks in the nation.

Mater Dei features two-time All-American JT Daniels, considered the top junior quarterback in the country. He's headed to USC.



Poly counters with Matt Corral, a 6-foot-2, 195-pound transfer from Oaks Christian, who is ranked the No. 32 top recruit overall from the Class of 2018. He's committed to Florida.

Daniels (6-2, 210) has thrown for 3,093 yards and 39 touchdowns. Corral has thrown for 2,495 and 29. He's looking for his Jackrabbits (9-2) to upset the nation's No. 1 team, which is 11-0 and outscored foes 519-150.

No matter the result, fans will get to witness two potential NFL quarterbacks.
