Football Game Preview: Marquette Mustangs vs. Hazelwood East Spartans

The Marquette Mustangs will challenge the Hazelwood East Spartans at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hazelwood East took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Marquette, who comes in off a win.

Marquette is returning home triumphant after the team finally put their road woes behind them against Hazelwood Central on Friday. The Mustangs came out on top against the Hawks by a score of 23-12. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Hawks recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Meanwhile, Hazelwood East fought the good fight in their overtime game against Parkway North on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a hair shy of victory and fell 31-30 to the Vikings. The Spartans were up 18-0 in the first quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

Marquette's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Hazelwood East, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 3-2.

Marquette was able to grind out a solid victory over Hazelwood East in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, winning 27-14. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
