Baseball Game Preview: Williamson Marauders vs. Lyons Lions

Williamson has gone 8-2 against Lyons recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Marauders will challenge the Lions at 4:45 p.m. Lyons took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Williamson, who comes in off a win.

While Marauders fans will have to keep waiting for their team to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Friday's season opener. They walked away with a 9-4 win over Clyde-Savannah on Friday.

David DeFisher made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over 4.2 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Spencer Blauvelt was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Myles Wurtz, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Lyons unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of North Rose-Wolcott on Thursday. The loss continues a trend for the Lions in their meetings with the Cougars: they've now lost eight in a row.

Everything went Williamson's way against Lyons in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Williamson made off with a 6-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Marauders since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
