Softball Recap: Somerville Yeguas vs. Iola Bulldogs
Somerville extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping them down to 13-10. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Iola Bulldogs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-7 on Tuesday.
Emma Williams spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on five hits.
On the hitting side, Abigail Richardson made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
As for Iola, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games.
On Iola's side, Shaylee McKown made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. McKown was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Ava Thomas was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base. Jolie Dreher also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
As of now, neither Somerville nor Iola have any future games scheduled.
