Softball Recap: Ripley Takes a Loss

Ripley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost 10-4 to the Itawamba Agricultural Indians. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Indians this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-0 back in March.

Brinson Gay spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and seven unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Lola Grace Ward was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Chatrea Wallace, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

Ripley's loss dropped their record down to 8-15. As for Itawamba Agricultural, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-3.

Looking ahead, Ripley will venture away from home to face off against Amory at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Itawamba Agricultural, they will be taking part in a tournament against Hatley at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. The Tigers will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something the Indians surely won't give up without a fight.
