Baseball Recap: Jackson County Comes Up Short

Jackson County extended their losing streak to six on Friday, dropping them down to 7-11. They fell 8-3 to the Madison Southern Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-3 on Friday.

As for Madison Southern, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-8. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games.

For Madison Southern's part, they got a great performance from Jordan Dunaway as he struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). Those 11 strikeouts gave Dunaway a new career-high.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Griffin Back, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and one double. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Trey Helton, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.

Looking ahead, Madison Southern will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Boyle County at 10:00 a.m. The Eagles will need to watch out since the Rebels have now posted at least ten runs in their last three games. Jackson County will be paying especially close attention to Madison Southern's matchup: after Madison Southern faces off against Boyle County, they'll take on Jackson County again at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
