New Brighton is 0-10 against Neshannock since May of 2019 but things could change on Wednesday. The Lions will venture away from home to square off against the Lancers at 5:00 p.m. New Brighton has given up an average of 11 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Wednesday just wasn't the day for New Brighton's offense. They came up short against Shenango on Wednesday, falling 16-0. Having soared to a lofty 24 runs in the game before, the Lions' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Meanwhile, Neshannock put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. They never let Riverside get on the board and left with a 17-0 victory. The Lancers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 contests by six runs or more this season.
Addy Frye made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with four RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Neshannock got a massive performance out of Gabby Quinn, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Payton Newman, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI.
Neshannock always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .643. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Riverside only posted an OBP of .000.
Neshannock pushed their record up to 14-0 with the win, which was their 22nd straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.4 runs on average over those games. As for New Brighton, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-8.
Wednesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. New Brighton has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .511. However, it's not like Neshannock struggles in that department as they've averaged .572. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
New Brighton might still be hurting after the 18-0 loss they got from Neshannock when the teams last played two weeks ago. Can the Lions avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
