Basketball Recap: Manzano Takes a Loss

Manzano was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They were dealt an 83-35 loss at the hands of the Sandia Matadors. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Matadors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 70-34 back in January.

Manzano's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Bryce Johnson, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds, and Christian Santillanes, who posted 11 points and five boards. Santillanes continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played.

Sandia's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Isaiah Brown, who had 11 points in addition to six boards and five assists. Brown is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last ten games he's played. Lavodrick Hogues was another key player, going 5-for-6 en route to 16 points and five rebounds.

Manzano's loss dropped their record down to 6-17. As for Sandia, their victory was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-3.

Manzano has already played their next match, an 81-44 defeat against Atrisco Heritage Academy on the 15th. As for Sandia, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, an 80-56 win against Eldorado on the 19th.
