Wesson's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. Everything went their way against Amite County as they made off with a 16-0 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cobras.
Preslee Newman and Ady Rose Dowd did most of the damage at the plate: Newman went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Dowd went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases Dowd has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Kenslie Carter, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs.
Wesson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .625. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Loyd Star beat West Marion 5-1 on Tuesday.
Layla Burt spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 16 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kaylin Hester, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.
Wesson's victory bumped their record up to 6-12. As for Loyd Star, their win bumped their record up to 19-2.
Friday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Wesson has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .488. However, it's not like Loyd Star struggles in that department as they've averaged .511. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
