The Exeter-West Greenwich Scarlet Knights will venture away from home to challenge the Rogers Vikings at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Exeter-West Greenwich is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Davies Career & Tech a 16-0 shutout on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for the Scarlet Knights in their matchups with the Patriots: they've now won five in a row.
Conner Monteiro was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Tyler Mediros, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with four RBI and two runs.
Exeter-West Greenwich was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. The last time their batting average was this high was back in May of 2024.
Rogers hadn't beaten North Smithfield on the road since May 22, 2021 but that history sure didn't bother them on Wednesday. The Vikings put the hurt on the Northmen with a sharp 20-9 win. That looming 20-9 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Vikings yet this season.
Ben Borgueta was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Rogers is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-4 otherwise. Borgueta was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with four runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Rogers got a massive performance out of Cole Marley, who went 4-for-6 with six RBI, three runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave Marley a new career-high. Colby Schreiber was another key player, going 4-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Rogers' victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-4. As for Exeter-West Greenwich, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Exeter-West Greenwich couldn't quite get it done against Rogers when the teams last played back in March as they fell 12-7. Can the Scarlet Knights avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
