Basketball Recap: Kankakee Trinity Academy vs. Donovan/St. Anne
This season hasn't been kind to Kankakee Trinity Academy, who are still winless after their 13th matchup. They were the victim of a rough 50-28 loss at the hands of Donovan/St. Anne on Saturday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Kankakee Trinity Academy of the 39-33 defeat they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2023.
Despite the loss, Kankakee Trinity Academy saw an underclassman step up: Kaitlyn Jorgensen scored 13 points along with two steals. It was the first time this season that Jorgensen grabbed two or more steals. Abby Whited was another key contributor, scoring five points along with three steals.
Donovan/St. Anne's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Laylah Lou Walters, who scored 20 points along with seven assists and six steals. Another player making a difference was Kaelannie Sutherland, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.
Kankakee Trinity Academy's loss was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-13. As for Donovan/St. Anne, their victory ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-13.
Kankakee Trinity Academy will look to defend their home court on Monday against the Screaming Eagles at 5:45 p.m. As for Donovan/St. Anne, they will head out on the road to challenge the Panthers at 5:30 a.m. on Monday. Gardner-South Wilmington has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 191 points over their last three matchups.
