Volleyball Recap: Southern's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Saturday

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Southern can now relate to. They fell just short of the Eastern Eagles by a score of 3-2 on Saturday. The Tornadoes' loss signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.

Southern started the match hot and won the first two sets, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 22-25, 24-26, 25-21, 25-21, 15-10.

Eastern found their leader in freshman Emeri Lloyd, who had 36 digs and three aces. Those 36 digs set a new season-high mark for Lloyd. Another player making a difference was Ashlynn Thomas, who had 13 digs.

Southern's defeat dropped their record down to 20-3. As for Eastern, they have been performing well recently as they've won 15 of their last 18 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season.

Southern does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Eastern, they will venture away from home to take on Tuscarawas Central Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
