Football Game Preview: Liberty Patriots vs. Shadow Ridge Mustangs

Two dominant wideouts in Kilolo Westerlund and Jaylani Palmer are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Liberty Patriots will take on the Shadow Ridge Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Liberty's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.

Liberty's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They breezed by Green Valley to the tune of 59-0. Considering the Patriots have won five matchups by more than 32 points this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Liberty got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kaylie Phillips out in front who rushed for 88 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries, and also threw for 304 yards while picking up 10.9 yards per attempt. Those two rushing touchdowns gave Phillips a new career-high. Westerlund also helped out as she racked up 150 receiving yards.

Liberty didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Sheaza Lopes and Siaosina Le?Au.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Shadow Ridge). They blew past Green Valley 28-6 on Saturday. The team's explosion on offense also rewarded the Mustangs with their most commanding win of the season.

Liberty better keep an eye on Palmer. She was instrumental in Shadow Ridge's win, picking up 108 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Palmer's receiving production has been exceptional as that marked her fifth straight game with at least 105 receiving yards. Another player making a difference was Chloe Covington, who threw for 137 yards and two touchdowns while completing 83.3% of her passes.

Liberty pushed their record up to 8-0 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 10.0 points per game. As for Shadow Ridge, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.

Liberty lost to Shadow Ridge on the road by a decisive 32-18 margin in their previous meeting back in January. Thankfully for Liberty, Kyla Moore (who rushed for 132 yards and one touchdown on only 14 carries, and also picked up 36 receiving yards) won't be suiting up this time.
