Football Recap: Cannon [Cannon/Concord Academy] Comes Up Short

Cannon [Cannon/Concord Academy] dropped down to 3-2 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They were dealt a 55-21 loss at the hands of the Providence Day Chargers. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 114th, while the Chargers are ranked second).

Even if they lost, Cannon [Cannon/Concord Academy]'s defensive line still kept up the pressure with four sacks. Providence Day's QB won't forget Jackson Laws anytime soon given he sacked him twice. Laws is crushing it when it comes to sacks: he's posted at least one every time he's taken the field this season.

As for Providence Day, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 6-0. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 41.3 points this season.

It was another big night for Zaid Lott, who threw for 204 yards and three TDs. Another player making a difference was Jack Criswell, who rushed for 71 yards and one score.

Looking ahead, Cannon [Cannon/Concord Academy] will take on Charlotte Country Day School at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Providence Day, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Christ School at 7:00 p.m. on October 10.
