Baseball Recap: Bernalillo Find Success

Bernalillo had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 13-run drubbing they dealt Pojoaque Valley on Thursday. Bernalillo's pitchers stepped up to hand Pojoaque Valley a 13-0 shutout. The Spartans haven't had any issues with the Elks/Elkettes recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Uriel Castro made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. Bernalillo is 5-1 when Castro posts two or more runs, but 2-5 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Hernan Hernandez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and two runs. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Garcia, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Bernalillo hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most two strikeouts in four consecutive games.

Bernalillo now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Pojoaque Valley, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-10.

Bernalillo has already played their next matchup, a 4-3 defeat against Hope Christian on the 28th. As for Pojoaque Valley, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 7-5 win against Capital on the 28th.
