Softball Game Preview: Chesterfield Golden Rams vs. Hartsville Red Foxes

The Chesterfield Golden Rams will take on the Hartsville Red Foxes at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Chesterfield's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 1-0 win over North Central. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Golden Rams.

Meanwhile, Hartsville entered their tilt with Darlington two weeks ago with eight consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with nine. They came out on top against the Falcons by a score of 12-9.

Allie Bailey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on 11 hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Mary Ellyn Hickey was incredible, firing off two home runs, seven RBI, and one double while going 4-for-5. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Myah Harvey, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Hartsville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive games.

Hartsville pushed their record up to 18-4 with the victory, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.1 runs over those games. As for Chesterfield, their victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 8-10-1.
